Welcome back to the Vero Beach podcast. I'm Brian.
Shawna:And I'm Shauna.
Brian:And we are so excited about this next season, which starts today. Season two. Can you believe it's been it's already season two?
Shawna:I can't believe it actually.
Brian:Can?
unknown:Yeah.
Shawna:We've got more incredible stories coming, a few surprises.
Brian:Yeah, and some new ways that we're going to be dropping in around town that we didn't do in season one.
Shawna:So we're going to talk about some fun things we've got planned for the second week of February. I'm not going to talk about it now, but it has to do with a pretty big milestone for the podcast. And it comes with a giveaway that just our local listeners in Indian River County can participate in.
Brian:Okay. Well, you better stop there. We don't want to get too much in that. We will talk about that a little bit later.
Shawna:Coming soon.
Brian:Yes. It has to do with our next guest, which is going to be really exciting.
Shawna:Very.
Brian:Well, let's talk about first, let's talk about the support in the community.
Shawna:Yeah, it's been amazing. Um, you know, I am surprised a little about how great the response has been, how many people have been interested in being on the podcast. I thought it would be a lot harder work to go out and find people who wanted to be interviewed, but so many people have found us and been interested and signed up that, you know, we haven't even met before. And so that's been really fun for me. And and getting to interview people that we never would have met otherwise.
Brian:Yeah, you know, it it's kind of cool. We got, you know, we we were calling ourselves, you know, we were new, but now we're newish. Yeah. Or newish neighbors.
Shawna:We we call each other, yeah, newish.
Brian:Newish neighbors. Uh, but yeah, I I mean, so grateful for the support. And we want to thank you all too, everyone that listens and that's been on the podcast. You guys are the ones making the Vero Beach podcast a success, really. It's all about definitely you, Vero Beach and the Indian River County. So I I've I was blown away too about the response, how many people signed up. And we're still, I mean, right now we're still booked all the way through June, I think, maybe July now. And it's just every week we're doing recordings and and we absolutely love it. It's it's been a blast. I know what we were talking about, like, well, should we take a break? When do we take a break? It was coming around Christmas, and we realized that we were just wrapping up our 20th number 20th guest.
Shawna:Yeah, that's right.
Brian:That's crazy. 20 guests, and we've dropped 60 over 60 episodes.
Shawna:Yeah.
Brian:So, and that was just from June of 2025.
Shawna:So, that's when we started.
Brian:Wow, it's an amazing story. So, I I love being able to go back and listen to those. So, okay, so Sean, let me ask you this. What has been what you would think would be like one of your biggest surprises from season one, or maybe your biggest takeaway?
Shawna:I guess my biggest takeaway would be how much I'm very, very surprised about how much businesses are interested and willing to work with each other, the collaboration and the support. Um, even businesses that maybe in other situations would be considered um competition, they will work together. And I love that. And I think it's beautiful to see. And uh it's it's just been exciting to see what a different sort of community and vibe there is in Vero Beach compared to anywhere I've ever been before.
Brian:Yeah, I think that I think one of my favorite sayings from season one, which I don't think it's carried into season two. We have episodes dropping next week, or yeah, the next week after you hear this episode, the next week we have our first episodes dropping from our first guest.
Shawna:No, wait, I did bring it up and you did?
Brian:I did. Well, it you know, if anybody's listening, like maybe they maybe they know what I'm talking about, maybe not, but it's the world's largest Mayberry, and we have to thank Ray Hooker for that one. And it has come up so many times is when we're sitting across interviewing other guests, they mention Mayberry, the world's largest Mayberry.
Shawna:Yeah, or if not by name, they at least say it's like the world's biggest little town, which means the same thing.
Brian:Yeah, yeah. It's all Mayberry. Thank you, Ray. Thank you, Ray. All right. Well, okay, so I would say one of my uh funnest interviews that I didn't expect. It was a lot of fun, and and we learned some things during it as well was with Ashley Murray. Ashley, if you're listening, uh that was thank you for all of that comedy gold. Yes, that was a very fun uh interview. And you know what's great is like, you know, as we are you know, new to the Vero Beach podcast, uh, we've done a podcast for over three years. A lot of people that's listening might not know this. We've done a podcast for three years, uh, but it wasn't a local podcast. So when we started this, we had some new things to learn along the way. And you know, since we interview businesses and they're sharing behind the scenes, I thought it'd be cool to talk a little bit about some of the things that we've learned. So with Ashley, uh, which, if you're wondering what was Ashley's episode, she is the owner of Breeze Pelvic Health.
Shawna:Yeah. So she is a pelvic therapist and helps women and men with all sorts of pelvic health issues.
Brian:So you can, if you haven't heard the episodes, you're probably thinking, ah, okay, I can see how this might be a little fun to listen to with uh with a male host on it as well. And let me tell you, she took advantage of that too. But uh what was really interesting that a lot of people don't know, this is kind of what's pulling back the curtains a little bit, was that we recorded, yeah. When we sit down to interview people, we record all three episodes during that a two-hour time frame. So we sit down and we record it all. And the second interview that we did, the second part, which was great, we talked for 45 minutes and then realized, which now I'm looking to make sure. Yeah, okay, I am. I didn't check on this one, but I didn't hit record.
Shawna:Yep.
Brian:So we talked for 45 minutes and then I had to break the news and say, Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. We're gonna have to record that one again. And Ashley was a champion. Yes, she's like, Yeah.
Shawna:A trooper, not a problem. She was so laid back, yeah. Yes, so it was a great mistake to have made with her because she was like, Oh gosh, don't worry about it, let's just do it again. She was very um gracious about it because Brian was being very hard on himself, of course. And so, yeah, she was a great guest to have made that mistake with.
Brian:Yes. And anybody that listened to part two probably would never have known, but now I've revealed that secret. So that was a lesson learned right there.
Shawna:Yes.
Brian:Uh, has there been any other lessons that you could think of that was pretty big?
Shawna:Hmm, that's a good question.
Brian:Well, you could tend to follow a funny little thing because you just brought this up the other day about how you know we've been investing in more microphones. I think we have three now.
Shawna:Yes.
Brian:Uh, and then we have some other special ones that we're gonna talk about here in a minute. But we started doing the podcast with only two.
Shawna:Yes.
Brian:Uh, and sometimes it gets challenging because we have four people talking, so then we share a mic. So you can share that story.
Shawna:So sharing a mic, you know, you have to be close to each other. And so during an interview, interview when Brian and I were sharing a mic, uh we like basically have to sit just glued to each other's side. Uh, Brian had his arm around me, and you know, honestly, I can't remember which guest it was anymore, but they said, Are you two married? And I still laugh when I think about it because I was just like, Oh my goodness. If two people were acting like that who weren't married, it would be very concerning.
Brian:Very concerning. And that's actually something I would say that we love a lot about doing this podcast is that we get to do it together. Our son Ashin does all the editing. So if you guys have appreciated the editing, you know, give him a shout out. This is shout out to Ashton for all the great edits. And you can let him know too by clicking that text, text us a message in the show notes right there. Just text us and say, Hey, thanks for Ashen. Thanks for everything you're doing. It's great. Uh, it's a great way to do that.
Shawna:Nobody can actually know how good of a job he's doing because the before episodes are quite a bit different than the after episodes. So yeah, he's really doing a lot of work.
Brian:So we've had some requests, Shauna, about that too. Like a couple people have said, Well, I would like to hear the whole episode. I'm like, okay, so we drop episodes. Our episodes are about 12, 15 minutes long on average. Occasionally a little bit. And we drop them, yeah. Sometimes they're longer. Uh, but those episodes before they go into editing are about an hour long each one. And about 40 minutes. Yeah, 40 minutes probably. Because we do, we only have two hours. So, but those two hours of episodes are cut down to like that. So people have asked, like, Whoa, I wonder what I would like to hear the rest. So we've talked about putting them out as bonus episodes. You guys will have to let us know if that's something you would like in the future.
Shawna:It's basically like a lot of laughing, a lot of re-saying lines that we've messed up.
Brian:Yes.
Shawna:And sometimes like really bad jokes that we ask to be cut out later.
Brian:That's true. And we talk a lot about ourselves, like in those conversations, because it's just a natural conversation we have with people. And then we tell him remove everything that we said about ourselves. Yeah. It's all about our guests because that's what we're here for. It's to introduce you to your neighbors and let you get to know them. I would say that the last thing that I would say has been the biggest challenge for me, and I know it has been for you too, is that we want to do more. We want to do more of these. Yeah. But we record an episode every week. We're we're usually interviewing a guest, and it's been like that since June. Uh, and then we drop all the episodes every other week. So we we would love to be able to interview more people, but we have to be sensitive to our availability and our time. So that's why we're booked out.
Shawna:We have jobs.
Brian:So yeah, we have jobs. So uh, but yeah, so that's the only that's the part I think that we hope maybe at some point we'll be able to change and do more. Do two a week. We can't do we're already doing one a week, so I don't know. We'll we'll see. But we would love to do that at some point. So that's and we want to, guys. So like just know that. Like if we can, we will at some point. All right. So let's talk a little bit about season two.
Shawna:Season two actually, you didn't ask a question that I was preparing for.
Brian:What was the question?
Shawna:Like, if I had a favorite moment or episode.
Brian:Oh, okay. Yeah. So have you had a favorite moment or episode?
Shawna:I haven't.
Brian:You got all you got, you got us right on the edge of our seats, then you just Yes, that's my specialty.
Shawna:This is okay. So a quote from one of my very favorite books. It's a book called Bread and Wine by Shauna Nequist. And the quote is, I hold all these places and flavors with me like a fistful of shiny coins, like a charm bracelet. And I thought of that quote when Brian was talking to me about moments, when you were talking to me about moments that I loved about interviewing all of these guests, these 20 guests in season one. And I really don't have a favorite because every single one of them I can remember a bit or a snippet or a feeling or a story they told that I'll hold with me, that I think of it like a little charm bracelet. And I have 20 little charms from each of these guests because um, you know, it's been so beautiful to hear their stories and get to know them and understand what brought them to Vero or what brought them back to Vero in a lot of cases. That that's another surprise is how many people were born and raised here, left, and then came back here to start businesses and families, which I think is really an interesting thing. But yes, I want to share that because while I don't have a favorite, I do have a favorite moment from every episode.
Brian:I agree. Everybody's everybody's story is so unique and so special. And that's what we love. Not only do we love bringing their stories to all of you that are listening and sharing this with your friends, we love that we get to be a part of that and hear it ourselves and get to know each individual more. I would say that just around Christmas time, some things started to happen that we were really excited about. You know, something that we hoped for. You know, we have the podcast, but we have myVerobeach.com, which you can visit online, learn about the businesses. And someone was flying in. It was a baker, right? A baker was flying in to the Vero Beach airport, and we got a message from them saying, Hey, I've been listening to the Vero Beach podcast my entire trip to Vero. And I want to experience and find like local places, bakeries to eat, restaurants, coffee shops, things to do. Uh, do you guys have any recommendations? And we're like, Yes, like we love this. Yeah, so we sent them a huge list. We're not gonna tell you who we sent, who we said, but great list. And as soon as I respond and send that list to this lady, she messaged back and uh she said, I'm actually because I said tribe coffee. I will go ahead and give that. I'm gonna say that one. I said tribe coffee. Uh, and she goes, I'm actually at tribe coffee right now. I'm look I just listened to that episode. I'm here. I love the coffee. This is great, and so very, very cool. And that's what it's all about, right? That's what it's all about. Now, can I talk about season two? Yeah, let's talk about season two season two. So, again, it has officially started. This is the first episode of season two. We have new conversations. Some of the guests that we have coming up. Do you remember some of the guests? You don't have to name them all.
Shawna:Sure, I remember all of them actually.
Brian:You don't have to name them all. You don't have to name all of them. Keep some in hidden in the bank.
Shawna:Okay, okay. So I'm excited about all of them, but um, I think it's gonna be interesting to hear about Kylie from New Glow by K, Vero Beach Tackle, and Water Sports. Yeah, it's great. Our conversation with Chris was wonderful. Yeah, Spanga, we talked to Christy and Brad. Very excited about that. It's gonna be really good.
Brian:Yeah, and we had some new faces too that we talked to. Uh, we had Riley Black Studios.
Shawna:Yes. Yeah, that was an interesting conversation. All of them are gonna be so good.
Brian:Yes, but we also are going to, as I mentioned at the beginning, we have some new ways that we want to highlight the community too, not just the owners of the businesses, but the community. So we're doing something new. This was something that was actually requested by some of the restaurants here that we did interviews for. And I thought, man, that's pretty cool that you're asking us to do something like this. And we'd have already been talking about it, especially for a restaurant. They have to feel pretty confident. Like, hey, we would like you to come in and do what we're calling Vero Drop ins. Vero drop-ins, which is where we're gonna come in, we're gonna do a live podcast recording wearing mics that are just clipped to us, and we're gonna go. Uh, you're gonna you're gonna ride in the car with us as we go to the place. We're gonna tell you where we're going, what we're what we're excited about, why we're going there.
Shawna:First impressions, first impressions, patron interviews, yes, maybe talk to servers, whoever wants to talk to us, really. Tell you our our thoughts about the food and the environment.
Brian:This is gonna be an additional segment that we're gonna be dropping in the Vero Beach podcast in season two. So I'm thinking there's probably gonna be one of these dropped a month. That's what we're thinking right now. That's what we're aiming for. So it'll be a lot different. It's gonna be a lot of fun. But again, I think it gives us the opportunity to bring the community into it and also at the same time share our experience live. So it's gonna sound different. You're gonna hear some of the noise in the background, you know?
Shawna:It's and kind of that's the point because a couple people mentioned to us that it's so important to hear the backstory of the owner and really get to know them to understand their business. But then also you don't get to hear the the environment and the vibe of the place three-person conversation. And so it'll be interesting to be able to understand more of the feeling of a business in action.
Brian:Yeah, it's gonna be so fun. We're gonna check it out at you guys. So really excited to do that. And actually, we it even resurfaced in our thoughts again. Let's go ahead and talk about our 21st guest. It was there was people that have canceled because you know, life happens when you're scheduling these podcasts, people is canceled, rescheduled, you know, all these different things. So when that happens, numbers get adjusted. We never looked at the number, we didn't even know we didn't even realize we didn't even know this, but our 21st guest is Jeff from 21st Amendment Distillery.
Shawna:Yeah.
Brian:And you know what's cool? I told Jeff this, and only I think I think you knew it, Shauna. But when I first started dueling the podcast, when I was planning it, Jeff was one of the first people I said, that's I want to interview him. I want to interview the person at 21st Amendment. I was like, not until we get going on the podcast. But I had the way it worked out, waiting for the right time, had no idea that he was going to be our 21st guest.
Shawna:We didn't realize until we were sitting here talking with Chris from uh Vero Taco and Water Sports. And I said, Oh, babe, it just like hit me out of the blue. I said, We should have made sure to schedule Jeff as the 21st guest. And then you sat there and thought about it for a second, and you said Jeff was the 21st guest, and we got so excited, completely geeked out, got completely distracted.
Brian:Super excited. And I thought, you know what? So, you know, we were at, we were at 21st Amendment and we were trying the old fashioned flights, which is incredible.
Shawna:Yeah.
Brian:Um, and the the bartender at that time, as we're talking, he shared so much knowledge with us, and we're like, this is why we need to do a Vero drop in here because just talking to that bartender, there was so much more we could take away just from their perspective. Yes, so that's really exciting. Jeff's episodes are gonna start dropping on Monday, February 9th. That's that's that's next week. I know. That's next week, guys. And it'll drop on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Now, here's the cool thing. Well, we were sitting there talking, Tim came up and we were talking to Tim and said, You won't believe this.
Shawna:Tim is the GM.
Brian:He's the GM. And we said, Tim, you won't believe this. Jeff's episode is gonna be the 21st guest on the podcast. Not planned, and we want to do something special. And here's what's here's what's going down, everybody.
Shawna:Also, to Tim's credit, he seemed pretty excited about it too.
Brian:Yeah, he was. He was. And then he's like, Who's Jeff? No, he was very excited about it, and he said that what they're gonna do, 21st Amendment, is going to gift us a bottle of their 21st AD bourbon to give away to one of our local listeners. So you have to be 21 or older, and you have to be in the Indian River County area because we can't ship it, so we need to be able to drop it off to you, get some photos, stuff like that. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, treasure coast. Okay, here's how you enter. Now we were trying to process this, and we thought, let's make people guess. We're like, that's gonna be too confusing. So here's the way. I mean, here's the best way to do it. We want you guys to follow us on Instagram if you're not following us already. And the Instagram, the Instagram, the Instagram handle is myVerobeech.com, and that's spelled out D-O-T-C-O-M. So go follow myVerobeach.com on Instagram. And when that post goes out on Monday, February 9th, it usually goes out very early in the morning. So you're gonna see it. When that post goes, there's a little repost button. It looks like two arrows, almost like a recycling sign, but a square. You're gonna click that repost. That's gonna notify us that you reposted that post. That's why they call it a repost. Which means you've been entered in to a chance to win the 21st 80 bourbon bottle. Now we will we were we are going to announce the winner live on Instagram the following Monday. So I just this now this just popped in my head. That's the way it works, right? When we do when we do podcast recordings. I didn't even think about it. We're going to be posting something on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. So if you repost all three of those, you're going to get three entries.
Shawna:Ah, that makes sense. Yeah. Right.
Brian:So that that'll up the Andy on your entries. Pay attention next week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Repost those on your Instagram account. It'll automatically notify us that you did that. We'll add you into the list. And then we will announce the winner live the following Monday, which will be February 16th.
Shawna:Am I allowed to enter?
Brian:You are not allowed to enter. We again we are so excited about season two. We're so grateful for all the support and responses back from season one. We're so happy that you guys love the podcast as much as we love doing this. Uh so thank you all. Thank you, everyone in the Treasure Coast.
Shawna:And everyone outside the Treasure Coast who's listening.
Brian:Yes, all over.
Shawna:Thank you to all of you.
Brian:Yes, all of you. And for those of you that are thinking, like, how can I be on the podcast? Visit myVeroBeach.com. And when you go to the website, there's a button right there. You can click, be a guest. You can read what that means, what that looks like. And then you can choose a time to book a free schedule. You might have to look a few months out because, like I said, we're booked up. But just keep clicking the next button, you're going to find dates that are open and times. And if you're a business, we come to you. If you're if you want to come to us, you can come to us as well. That's welcome. And I do want to say, you know, most of our guests so far have all been business owners, but we are open to interviewing. There's a lot of music talent in this area, bands and stuff. And we would love to bring you guys on too and share your story.
Shawna:Yeah.
Brian:And all of you that have a band, a business, an organization, you guys can list those things for free. List your band, your organization, your business for free on myberobeach.com. So take advantage of that. Again, we thank you guys and we're excited for season two. And man, wow, I guess with that.
Shawna:Catch you next time, neighbor.
Brian:A fenced? What is that? A fake.
Shawna:Yeah, like your fake Instagram. Yeah. It's like fake name. Nobody knows the true.
Brian:You got to prove it. You're 21 because I'm not going to give you a bottle of 21 AD. And then I'm going to see your real identity.
Shawna:So I got carded the other day and the kid, it was so rabbit trailing right now. No, you're going to love this. He he rings out a bottle of wine and he's like, Can I see your ID? And I said, Oh, I don't have it with me. And he looked at me and he's like, Oh, it's okay.
Brian:Never mind. You're you're good. You're good. You're good.
Shawna:He was like 12 and I'm 45. So I was like, I'm 45. Thank you.
Brian:That's hilarious. That's hilarious.
