Start with a city known for beaches, then discover the unexpected: a wellness network, a generous arts scene, and a local culture that shows up for one another. That’s the Vero Beach Alexis describes—where a yoga certification opened doors to community, and where a career in audiology turned into a mission to protect hearing across theaters, schools, and even gun shows.

We discuss choosing a smaller city without sacrificing options, keeping Tampa and Orlando within reach while building a life where collaboration is the norm. Alexis outlines practical partnerships with a dentist, a psychologist, and organizations supporting Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s communities to connect patients with free or funded services. Her focus is on education first: encouraging early testing, teaching safe listening habits, and bringing hearing protection directly to those who need it—musicians, stage crews, shooters, and students. The impact lives in simple, repeatable steps like layered protection, musician filters, and creating easy referral paths between offices.

Along the way, we map the places that make Vero feel alive: Palado Cafe for nourishing lunches, La Tabla for wholesome bites, Level Yoga for inclusive classes, and Spenga for a welcoming, energetic workout. Alexis shares how slowing down at home, carving space for rest, and brainstorming with her husband in their “think tank” hot tub helped her make bold decisions—like reaching out to Dr. Botto at Florida Eye Institute to build a partnership that accelerated her practice. The throughline is clear: when a town invests in wellness, arts, and service, personal growth and public health move together.

Brian:

All right. Well, welcome back to the Vero Beach podcast. This is part three of our interview here with Alexis. I'm excited to learn about what you love about Vero Beach. So what do you love most?

Alexis:

Oh, wow. Where do I start? There's so much. Well, health and wellness have always been really important to me. So I really love the fitness community. And again, I got my yoga certification in 2023, and that just opened up a lot of doors. We have a lot of kind of boutique gyms here and lots of it's just a great community for health and wellness. And I love how all the local businesses support each other. There's a lot of philanthropy, um, which is really special. And the performing arts that has a special place in my heart. We have two wonderful theaters, Riverside Theater and Vero Beach Theater Guild, which I'm involved with. The beaches, I mean, there's so much. Where do you? It's just the list goes on and on. Yeah. That's always how we are when we're talking about Vero. Right.

Brian:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is that's what this podcast episode's about.

Alexis:

I also love too just that, because I was living in Tampa and Orlando before I made it to Vero. My husband traveled for work, and then we met during him traveling, and that's how I ended up in Vero because he lived here. And it was a little bit of an adjustment. I was excited to live in a bigger city, Tampa in Orlando for the first time. And then coming to Vero, it was a little bit like, oh yeah. But I really I was like, every bigger cities are still about an hour to an hour and a half away. You can still get away if you want that bigger city life. But I've really grown to love, and again, in just this season of my life and starting the business, I just love the community here.

Brian:

Do you have any plans for like any collaborations in the future?

Alexis:

Absolutely. Um, well, I have a friend that runs a dental office here in town and um also I'm friends with a psychologist. And we've already been talking about, you know, maybe doing a little in-service in one of our offices with all three, but I'm all about that. Um, getting involved, even the Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Association. I just learned more about them since joining the chamber and all the services that they offer. There's so many parallels and connections to what I do and my patients may be dealing with. And I want to know all the resources to where I can refer them and that are free and covered through fundraising. And so, yeah, I have plans to have some talks from from their com from that organization coming and then maybe collaborating with some other health offices. Just education, education, education is key.

Brian:

With the hearing side of it, is there any have you have anything in the back of your mind about doing anything for as we talk about like we've talked about musicians, we've talked about the theater, people that would say, I guess you would say, I mean, hearing is important for all of us, but for the community that might need to be educated about the importance of hearing protection, is there any thoughts behind preparing and putting things in place to educate them as well, or even have like, hey, we're gonna offer a discounted hearing test for musicians or at the theater or stuff like that.

Alexis:

Absolutely. And that's a great idea. I feel like a lot of people are sharing little tidbits and ideas that I haven't thought of. That's why when I mention I have uh worked the last few gun shows, I'd never been to a gun show myself. I'm kind of just indifferent to guns, not for or against. And uh it was a little intimidating at first, but I thought, what a great way to advocate for hearing protection. And I got good feedback from folks that came that said there's never they go regularly to gun shows and they said there isn't anyone like this that's talking about the importance of not only hearing protection, but layering hearing protection when you're shooting. So I think, yeah, getting involved with theater, the schools, I would love to collaborate, you know, really immerse myself in the community in that education. So okay. So when you're not at the office and you have some free time, where do you like to go around town? Any like treasure coast uh treasures, I guess? Yeah, so uh one of my favorite restaurants is Palado Cafe. I love for lunch, and they have delicious coffee smoothies, you know, healthy food options. I I love bringing visitors from out of town there, as well as La Tabla or catching a yoga class, going to the beach. Also, we just bought our house five years ago, my husband and I, and he travels for work. So we do he is excited to be home in our home. And a lot of times I'm ready to go, but I've become more appreciative of enjoying our home as well and just slowing down uh a little bit.

Brian:

All right. Well, Alexis, this has been great. Like, I mean, we love it here in Bureau too, and everything that you're saying aligns with everything that we've been experiencing. And even sitting down here with you today, this is a great time to give any kind of shout outs to people that's helped you along the way or other business owners in the area, like you guys should guys just check them out. Because again, we're new, we're getting getting to know more and more people in the community. So, do you have any shout-outs that you would love to share?

Alexis:

Yes, definitely check out Level Yoga. That is a community that really embraced me during a tougher time in my life and in my business life. They offer classes for all skill levels. They have two locations, one here in Royal Palm Point and then one at Cardinal. Spanga has been another community that's a gym that I'm a part of and now I instruct at. And they're just a really welcoming, uplifting community. So you can, your first session is free. I would definitely check them out. And I would love to give a shout out to and thank my husband who did help spur this decision. We call our hot tub our think tank, where some of the best ideas have come up, you know, maybe changes or kind of epiphanies that we've had. And for about a year and a half, I was really trying to figure out which way I wanted to go with my career. And, you know, he said, Dr. Botto at Florida i Institute has a huge building. Maybe we should reach out to him. And it was one of the best decisions that I ever made. So I also want to thank Dr. Botto for this partnership. And I look forward to the future.

Brian:
